You can now reap the benefits of recent amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The changes require each of the nationwide credit-reporting bueaus-Equilfax, Experian, and TransUnion- to provide consumers with one free copy of their credit report every 12 months. These reports contain consumers' payment histories, loan balances, and other personal and financial information used by lenders, landlords, employers, and insurers.
Prospective homebuyers who take advantage of these free reports can avoid surprises when they eventually apply for a loan. We encourage all of our clients to check the accurace of their reports and clear up any discrepancies before they find a house - not when they're under contract and in need of financing. Clients should pay special attention to their payment histories and use of credit to ensure someone else hasn't opened accounts in their name.
Since there are three credit-reporting bureaus and each one must provide consumers with an annual report, that means all of our clients can receive one free credit report every four months if they time their request right.
You must request your own score- our status as your representative doesn't premit us to your credit documents. To receive your free reports from all three bueaus, visit AnnualCreditReports.com or call toll-free 877-322-8228. You will need to supply informatin like your name, date of birth, Social Security number, current address, and past addresses to verify their identities.
